Postgraduate Certificate in Pipeline Integrity Management
Penspen and Northumbria University, UK, have teamed up to launch a fully-accredited, on-line Distance Learning Certificate in Pipeline Engineering. The partnership is being led by Penspen's Team in Newcastle upon Tyne, whose reach extends across the UK, Middle East, Americas and Asia Pacific.
The course's unique advantage is that it is fully flexible, with students able to learn via a wide range of options from public training courses delivered by Penspen; to the dedicated online training website which can be accessed by students across the globe.
The Certificate is made up of four modules worth 60 academic credits, meaning participants can ultimately go on to put their credits towards a Masters worth 180 credits if they so wish. This is the first course of its kind and a market-leader, its development primarily driven by the skills-crisis within the industry.
The academic year 2011-12 is its pilot year and commences with the first module in Pipeline Integrity Assessment (20 credits). There are three further modules in the Postgraduate Certificate: Onshore Pipeline Engineering (20 credits), Risk Management of Pipelines (10 credits) and Materials and Corrosion (10 credits) which initially will be launched in phases from academic year 2012-13. Students must therefore allow up to 36 months to complete. Full guidance in distance learning study-planning will be provided.
All distance learning materials and tutors will be provided by Penspen, which has been raising the awareness of the need to address the skills shortage in our industry for many years. For the pilot year of this programme, the cost for the 20-credit module Pipeline Integrity Assessment is £2,067.
The programme will be run by Northumbria University’s School of Computing, Engineering and Information Sciences.
